Second Week Update

Posted on Sep 13, 2019

The last week has been a whirlwind. We held a VBS in the morning (Tuesday – Friday) with around 45 kids ages 5 and 6. We met on an open air basketball court where we led music, taught Bible lessons, made crafts, played games, and interacted with the kids. We were very grateful for the help from Redemptio School who translated and helped us communicate with the kindergarteners. Everyone had a wonderful time!

By 11:30 we were thrilled to escape to the nearby air conditioned mall for a lunch reprieve. After lunch we met back at the court.
Our youth, along with Robbie Nichols, put on a basketball camp for 50 boys ages 10-13. Their enthusiasm in the scorching heat was amazing! During this time the adults had an opportunity to visit and pray with members of the nearby church in their homes. It was very eye opening to see their homes and living situations.

At the end of the day we were very grateful to climb into the air conditioned vans and head back to the guest house. At the same time we were fully aware of those who did not have that option.

On Tuesday evening most of our team went to an open gym at Faith Academy where they played basketball with other students.

On Wednesday evening we had dinner out with Robbie and Deanna Nichols at a restaurant with a view of the city.

On Thursday evening we went back to the court and our men played an exciting basketball game against a rec team in Floodway. (Our girls had the jobs of scorekeeper, timer, and play by play) I am happy to report that Sunnyside won! Pastor Guy was then able to share the gospel with the group of guys who played, as well as to those who had gathered to watch.

On Friday we were all exhausted from the long week so we relaxed at the guesthouse in the evening.
